The FIA F2, rising star Oscar Piastri, might be one of the strongest championships contenders this season after winning a podium and a win from his first three races in Bahrain.
Formula 2's 2021 season has only three races checked out of twenty-four races in the calendar this season, but the rookie Oscar Piastri is already fighting for the championship title with a win in his first week racing inside the FIA Formula 2 championship.
The Australian driver might be new to Formula 2, but that doesn't hold Oscar Piastri's aim in winning the championship like what he did last season in Formula 3.
He is currently leading in fourth from the driver's standings with a 5-point lead ahead of his teammate Robert Shwartzman.
According to his last preparation before heading into his first season in Formula 2, Piastri mentioned a few things about fighting for wins by the capability that he has inside him.
"I think for my first result, I think it depends on where we are as a team. If we got the capability to win, then I want to try and win obviously, that's how the F3 season started. I know I can do it, but if we got the capability to finish tenth, then I want to try and finish tenth or to exceed what we thought was possible." Mentioned Piastri.
Experiences are not the only ticket for the Prema Racing driver to be considered as one of the strongest championship contenders for the season.
But what will Oscar Piastri put into his performances to top the battle this season along with the most competitive drivers on the grid?
There are many answers to that question, but there's only one way to find out the reason behind our predictions in putting Oscar Piastri as one of the championship contenders through five minutes read.
His career at a glance
Oscar Piastri started his racing career in 2013 in an Australian national karting championship called 'the CIK Stars of Karting Championship' as their champion.
With his biggest influence coming from his dad, Chris Piastri, he introduced him to the world of racing, as said in an interview. He continued his journey in racing to a couple of karting championships before the 21-year-old driver started his debut in the single-seater racing series in 2017.
Piastri made his way up to a bigger series, such as the Formula Renault Eurocup championship, for two years after graduating from the British F4 Championship.
He was the oscar 'worthy' winner. In 2019, he successfully brought the Formula Renault Eurocup champion title to him as he stepped closer into the Formula One dream in driving as the FIA Formula 3 driver back in 2020.
It didn't take long for Piastri to climb his way up to the next level with him in the first place from the drivers' standing last season as he got crowned their champion with 164 points in total ahead of Theo Pourchaire and Logan Sargeant.
Oscar Piastri's aim in achieving his dream to drive for Formula One didn't stop there with him continuing his passion in racing to drive inside the FIA Formula 2 championship together with the Prema Racing team in joining the battle amongst the stars of tomorrow this season in 2021.
Our predictions
You might think that it's too early to predict something out, especially with Oscar Piastri only having joined the first round of the FIA Formula 2.
There are names like Robert Shwartzman, Guanyu Zhou, Felipe Drugovich, Christian Lundgaard, and other drivers on the grid who got prophesied as the next champion from the series adapted by their performances last season and how the hopes are on them.
But, we have to keep in mind that it's also one of the most competitive racing series, and luck isn't something to talk about when it comes to Oscar Piastri.
Reflecting on Oscar's days competing inside the FIA Formula 3 championship, he's not likely to give up on something as he's also seen as a figure of a champion with consistency and ambition planted inside Piastri's character.
On a slight review through the moment that made him in the first round of the FIA Formula 2 in Bahrain, Piastri didn't expect a win or podium. The rookie only wanted to finish in a decent place, even with his aim to maximize everything out in his debut.
He said: "We got to see how competitive we are as a team. If we've got the capability to be winning every race, then I want to try and win every race. If we got the capability to be finishing P5 or P6, hopefully, we don't. Hopefully, we got the capability to win but if that's all that we got on the day, then I want to try to maximize the most out of the car."
However, the second sprint race results from the weekend welcomed him even more to the FIA Formula 2 championship as he got to be announced as a champion.
The battle goes off with Christian Lundgaard and Guanyu Zhou trying to get underneath him, but the rookie didn't give them any chance to take his momentum in arriving into the highest place from the podium that day.
He mentioned 'the good moves' that he played on the race with confidence and how it was one of the craziest victories he ever had through his career.
The journey from him to reach the Formula One dream or to achieve the title this season didn't stop there, and we believe that he will try everything that he set on his goals to make it a realization.
Here's what he got to say in his goals and dream in driving for F2: "I don't really have any concrete things I want to achieve. Obviously, I want to be fighting for race wins and hope for the championship. Fighting for the title in your rookie year is not an easy fight, so it's going to be tough."
We'll have to see if this verdict will be a success in the future in the next event coming from the series on the 20th of May in Monaco. There are more things to concentrate on, but Oscar Piastri is to watch as we're on his journey to become the stars of tomorrow.
